Olamide fondly called “Baddo” by fans is not a strange name in the Nigerian music industry, with many hits to justify himself, he needs little or no introduction.
Over the years, Olamide has honed his musical skills by working with several producers and artists here in Nigeria, his recent effort titled “Science Student” coming after the success of his viral Shaku Shaku song “WO”.|
Olamide comes from the streets where he already witnessed millions of Nigerian youths with bright
future, trapped in the circle of drug abuse.
The Young John and BBanks produced track “Science Student” has a lot of fans, it also has its detractors with many saying the song blatantly promotes drug abuse. It even reportedly led to the NBC declaring it unfit for broadcast which Olamide denies instantly, saying the song is against drug abuse and more lights would be shed on the video and it kind of does. The Unlimited LA directed clip shows Olamide wandering into a sort of druggy house of horrors, but refusing to take the unknown substance he’s offered.
In an Instagram post, Olamide said:
“I want you all to take some time to reflect on the subject, say no to drug abuse. Don’t abuse alcohol.
Stop mixing what you don’t know about. Live responsibly and drink responsibly. Don’t aspire the
‘highness state’ but a state of purpose fulfillment and passion discovery.”
In my own opinion, i would say ‘Science student’ is a song promoting drugs with the contents embedded in the lyrics tackling the visuals, even as much as he tries to change our believe but the lyrics of the song is more heavy than what he can change.
Mr Baddo, Well done sir.
