Davido was a proud father after the 12th Headies show where he won three awards which includes “Song of the Year” and “Artist of the Year”.
One major highlight of the award night was the DMW head honcho speech after he won the “Headies artist of the year”. As soon as the “Assurance” crooner hit the stage with his 30 billion gang, he used the opportunity to call on his fellow colleagues in the music industry saying, “we rise by lifting other,” thus encouraging them to do all in their capacity to help others.
Since Davido started his musical career, he has used his ability to rise other artists to stardom. Today, a lot of artists owe Davido a large chunk of their success.
Tekno
Presently, Nigeria music star, Tekno, is easily among the top 10 Nigerian artists. However, Tekno’s earliest success in the Nigerian music scene can be linked to a little input from Davido on his first debut single “Holiday”. Tekno easily scored a hit for himself by featuring Davido who without doubt had lustre to the song. Since then, Alhaji Tekno has been growing in leaps and bounds arguably one of the most patronized Nigerian music stars.
Humblesmith
Ekenedilichukwu Ijemba better known by as Humblesmith would forever be grateful to Davido for his breakthrough in the industry. Humblesmith “Osinachi” remix was indeed groundbreaking as it hit the mainstream and became one of the most played songs in 2016. An earlier version of the song, “Osinachi” which featured Phyno did not yield much until a remix was released. In fact, not everyone remember the original song. Humblesmith bagged several award nominations, all thanks to “Osinachi” remix. Since then, the Ebonyi state singer is yet to make a song with half the success of “Osinachi” remix ft Davido.
Mayorkun
Another artist who owes all his recent exploits in music to Davido is Mayorkun. During the just concluded 12th Headies Awards, Davido, who doubles as his mentor and record label boss revealed he discovered Mayorkun on Twitter after the later made an acapella version of his song “The Money”. Shortly after, he was signed to DMW and has rise rapidly in the music industry under the guidance of his label boss. Mayorkun has won awards like Headies “Rookie of the Year” and “Next Rated” and other awards in between. Mayor of Lagos as he is fondly referred to is most valuable artist in his label, with a sizeable repertoire of hits to name. Looking back to two years ago he has Davido to thank for it.
Nasty C
Presently, a lot of folks are raving about South African rapper Nasty C, especially here in the western Africa, Nigeria, he’s one of the most loved non-Nigerian rapper at the moment. The “Hell Naw” crooner has had some beautiful outing here in Nigeria. However, his prominence in this part of Africa is associated with Davido. He came into our consciousness after Davido featured him on his 2016 hit “Coolest Kid In Africa”. Nasty C did a fine deal of rap on that jam, it is at this point most Nigerians started looking his way. Since his introduction to the Nigerian music scene he has worked with Runtown, Ice Prince etc., all thanks to Baba Imade.
Diamond Platnumz
One of the best musicians to rise straight up from the East Africa part of the world is Diamond Platnumz. Before he got even more continental recognition, Davido had to come along to show him off to West Africa. Prior to featuring Davido on “Number One” remix Simba’s circle of influence was merely centered around Tanzania his home country and a little bit around East Africa. Things changed drastically in favour of Diamond after his collaboration with OBO. After that Diamond has had the opportunity to work with A-list Nigerian music stars like the defunct Psquare, Waje, Patoranking, Tiwa Savage, Flavour etc.
